éarpa: Mystic Knowledge of Your Future

My piece will be called “Zéarpa: Mystic Knowledge of Your Future” (although that is a working title). In this piece I will perform in front of a camera as a fortune teller machine and bestow prophetic knowledge onto the HWS campus. I have an interest in people’s reception of divination and the tension that occurs because of intentions of the questions or sincerity behind receiving the advice. Fortune Teller machines live among carnival and fair games. They live behind back alleys, behind WaWa’s. My intentions for the piece is to invite students to play with this indulgence for themselves and distribute insights that they may not take seriously, but I do, and potentially either relieve or instill a sense of anticipation and surreal obscurity between the line of fatalism and self-fulfilled prophecy. To quote Scott Cunningham, an expert author on Solitary Wicca practice, “Magic is the projection of natural energies to produce needed effects.” I want to use my art to produce a needed effect on a population which, by finals week, are seeking a means to project their natural energies for purposes of closure and achievement. effects."
I will only need a power strip, a desktop PC, with a keyboard, mouse, and Ethernet cord, and cardboard to build the prescenium around the computer, to give the look of the Fortune Teller Machines. It will be placed on a tall table either by student activities or the back of the café. It will be flashy and exciting in order to replicate that intrigue that a “Zoltar” – like machine evokes. “Zéarpa” is my last name spelled backwards, Apraéz.

Trapped in a hole

For my final project I really want to utilize the Scandling Center tiles where everyone stands in line to get into Saga so I filmed Liz as if she were stuck in a hole in ground. It will look like the floor caved in and she is trapped down there as long as I can hang a projector the way I planned. I am going to bevel the edges of the frame so that the outline looks jagged and it looks like a real hole. I want people to walk up to it and do a double take and think that it is a real hole.

The reason why I wanted to work with something along the lines of being trapped is because I was fascinated by the idea that we are all "trapped" in our own little worlds and we don't take the time to think of others. This piece shows Liz sometimes very content in her little hole, reading, working out, etc. and then there are other times when she cries for help and wants to be rescued.

My supplies would just be a projector because I plan to project right onto the tiles in Scandling.

Aiko

For my final project I have a couple of ideas going on in my head, but as of now I am working with facial expression when screaming out of anger, stress or just out of fun. I am planning to have my installation placed on the entrance staircases for when viewers enter Scandling Center as to draw in the crowd to question why they are in the process of watching their peers screaming on camera with no sound

Final Project

My final project is about human as robots. The robots will have human features and flesh but the interior will be robotic. These robots are "humans of the future" and will one day replace the humans on earth. My influences are I Robot and the convenience that "vampires" have to turn their emotions on and off. The on and off switch led to the idea of a robotic human being. I want the luxury to turn off my emotions.

I am thinking about installing the video on the wall next to the staircase right in the entrance of Scandling. There is a ton of space to project onto and it will not be distorted because my video is not distorted in any way. I might show it on a tv instead of projecting the video.

Effect: To understand that humans can be perfect, if they are designed the right way. Humans, like robots, can be turned on/off at the person's convenience. My video is a product, selling perfect human beings.

Wishlist equipment: Clear garbage bags. Plastic wrap. Silver tape. I don't know the rest yet.

First trial, might try another idea.

BATFE Seizure of RECESS art works

http://chadperson.com/recess/2010/11/batfe-stealing-my-art-violating-speech-and-wasting-your-money.html

Check out the link on Chad Person's blog. The Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, and Explosives confiscated Person's "Improvised Shotgun: White" from The Mark Moore Gallery in Santa Monica. They asked for the locations of recently shipped works... that would be our exhibition...

These are pieces of conceptual art, meant to engage the viewer and question the status quo. Their seizure only creates more questions about our priorities as a society.

The works were still on the wall at Davis when the gallery closed this afternoon.

Final Proposal

Distorted Self Image

My proposed final project will examine the concept of distorted self image. As cliche as it is, our society faces a mass bombardment of perfect human images constantly-because of this, men and women alike experience, in some way, insecurities with their bodies.

My project will ACTUALLY distort bodies, of which the aim is to emphasize that the only thing distorted about bodies is our perception of them.

There will be images of stationery people in everyday settings projected onto a strange surfaces that ACTUALLY distort the body, instead of an illusion of distortion the mind creates.

A little video about what weapons not to use.

Cooperation is the best weapon.
How do you put together a trebuchet? Watch my video to find out!

I decided that I am going to make my trebuchet into a shelter as well. I think that if it can serve as a weapon and a shelter it would be more effective. I plan on using garbage bags and tape I just need to aquire enough garbage bags to do it... maybe house keeping has extras? hmm.....

Skhizein

Skhizein, A French short film

Part1/2

Part2/2

inventory and plans for building

Field-Expedient Lean-To
If you are in a wooded area and have enough natural materials, you can make a field-expedient lean-to (Figure 5-9) without the aid of tools or with only a knife. It takes longer to make this type of shelter than it does to make other types, but it will protect you from the elements.

You will need two trees (or upright poles) about 2 meters apart; one pole about 2 meters long and 2.5 centimeters in diameter; five to eight poles about 3 meters long and 2.5 centimeters in diameter for beams; cord or vines for securing the horizontal support to the trees; and other poles, saplings, or vines to crisscross the beams.
To make this lean-to--
• Tie the 2-meter pole to the two trees at waist to chest height. This is the horizontal support. If a standing tree is not available, construct a biped using Y-shaped sticks or two tripods.
• Place one end of the beams (3-meter poles) on one side of the horizontal support. As with all lean-to type shelters, be sure to place the lean-to's backside into the wind.
• Crisscross saplings or vines on the beams.
• Cover the framework with brush, leaves, pine needles, or grass, starting at the bottom and working your way up like shingling.
• Place straw, leaves, pine needles, or grass inside the shelter for bedding.
In cold weather, add to your lean-to's comfort by building a fire reflector wall (Figure 5-9). Drive four 1.5-meter-long stakes into the ground to support the wall. Stack green logs on top of one another between the support stakes. Form two rows of stacked logs to create an inner space within the wall that you can fill with dirt. This action not only strengthens the wall but makes it more heat reflective. Bind the top of the support stakes so that the green logs and dirt will stay in place.
With just a little more effort you can have a drying rack. Cut a few 2-centimeter-diameter poles (length depends on the distance between the lean-to's horizontal support and the top of the fire reflector wall). Lay one end of the poles on the lean-to support and the other end on top of the reflector wall. Place and tie into place smaller sticks across these poles. You now have a place to dry clothes, meat, or fish.

Warfare? Part of the Big Picture

Here are the weapons I made-a Matchbox Bomb, a BB Gun Pencil, and a Bow and Arrow.

I decided that I was unhappy with the idea of only making office supply warfare, so these small sculptures are a small part of a larger piece: which is to have a model survivalist home made of straws, tacks, and garbage bags, as well as other memorabilia. These are what I have completed so far, so don't be disappointed at this small amount of stuff!
I decided for my project to build a trebuchet out of PVC pipe. I have never done anything like this before in my life but I like a little challenge and it turned out to be kind of fun. I started out with a silly slingshot made from a pen and hair elastic and ended up with something really cool.
